1

what is the function of cementum?

covers root dentine, provides attatchment for some periodontal fibres

2

describe the basic structure of cementum

similiar in structure to bone, collagen matrix, lamellar arrangement (linear)

3

what are the 2 types of cementum?

cellular and acelluar

4

describe acellular cementum

no cells within, adjacent to dentine, first formed

5

describe cellular cementum

contains cementocytes, later formed, in apical part of root and furcation regions (bone loss)

6

where must cementum cells get nutrition?

periodontal tissue

7

where are sharpeys fibres found and what is there function?

attatching to the cementum and running to the bone, keep tooth in socket

8

what is the structure of sharpeys fibres?

matrix of connective tissue (type 1 collagen)

9

what is another name for acelluar cememntum?

acellular extrinsic fibre cementum

10

which cementum contains sharpeys fibres?

acellular

11

where is acellular extrinsic fibre cementum found?

cervical 2/3 of the roots

12

what is another name for cellular cementum?

celluar intrinsic fibre cemnentum
