A

ISM code (All vessels over 500 GT)- The sms on board the yacht incorporates the safety and pollution plans and regulations set out by the ISM code to ensure that the yacht is complying with flag state law and thus, ISM.

A

Flag state - Audit of vessel under your own regulator for compliance with their legal requirements
Port State - Inspection by a foreign regulator for compliance with minimum IMO requirements and sometimes national law.

A

A

Under the ISM. The designated person ashore is a representative of the owners or company with full access to the management systems of the vessel and are there to ensure that the job, drills, safety procedures are carried out correctly and that the resources to do this are available. (ensures the master is ensuring the crew are operating safely)

What are the MARPOL Garbage regulations for different sized vessels

A

Annex 5 - Garbage

Vessels over 12m must have placards
Vessels > 100GT or > 15 persons must have a garbage management plan with information on collection, storing, processing, fridge compactor etc.
Vessels > 500GT or > 15 persons offshore must have a garbage record book. This must be kept on board for at least 12 months

When outside of 12NM and not in special areas,- Can discharge up to 15ppm on route and through filtering equipment must have auto shutdown. (not allowed to discharge if its been mixed with cargo residue).

A

Plan, check quality and type of water being discharged, pump through oily water separator, monitor it visually o/b and on the gauge, communication to engineers, log the amount and quality in the discharge book. (Every page should be signed by master)
