dull yellow, external layer of anatomic root, very thin, thinnest part is where the root meets the crown, about as hard as bone, 65% mineralized
define cementoenamel junction
the root and crown meeting point of cementum and enamel

cervical line, bc it surrounds the neck or cervix of the tooth
define dentin
hard yellow tissue under enamel AND cementum,makes up bulk of crown and root, dentin is not visible unless its cover is cut or decayed off, about 70% making it less hard/brittle than enamel but stronger than cementum
define dentinoenamel junction
inner surface of enamel where enamel joins dentin
define cemetodentinal junction
inner surface where cementum and dentin meet, cementum is so thin that it’s difficult to ID on radiograph
define pulp
soft non-mineralized connective tissue containing blood supply and nerves located in its pulp cavity

is the center of a root and crown full of pulp

describe formative function of pulp?
dentin producing cells, called odontoblasts, produce dentin throughout the life of a tooth. This normally maturing dentin is called secondary dentin
describe formative sensory of pulp?
Nerve ending cannot distinguish the cause of pain, but they alert the brain of pain from many causers such as: decay, sweet foods, hot, cold, drilling, infection, trauma
describe formative nutritive of pulp?
blood vessels transport nutrients from bloodstream into pulp cells and odontoblasts.
describe formative defensive/protective of pulp?
pulp responds to injury or decay by forming reparative dentin from the odontoblasts
