Chemistry
A science dealing with the structure, composition and properties of items and with the transformations that they undergo
Chemical
A compound or substance that has been purified or prepared especially artificially
Mass
A body of coherent matter, usually of indefinite shape and often of considerable size
Matter
The substance or substances of which any physical object consists or is composed
Atom
The smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the element
Element
A component or constituent of a whole or one of the parts into which a whole may be resolved by analysis
Compound
Composed of two or more parts or elements
Extensive property
A property that depends upon the amount of material in a sample
Intensive property
Property of matter that does not change as the amount of matter changes
Physical property
And property that is measurable whose value describes a state of a physical system
Physical change
Changes affecting the form of a chemical substance but not it’s chemical composition
Change of state
A change from one state to another
Solid
A change from one state to another without a change in chemical composition
Liquid
Phase of matter in which atoms or molecules can move freely while remaining in contact with one another. Liquid takes shape of its container
Gas
Change from one state to another without a change in chemical composition
Plasma
The liquid part of blood or lymph, as distinguished from the suspended elements
Chemical property
A property or characteristic of a substance that is observed during a reaction in which the chemical composition or identity of the substance is changed
Chemical change
Irreversible chemical reaction involving the rearrangement of the atoms of one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition
Chemical reaction
Breaking down or formation of bonds
Reactant
Starting materials in a chemical reaction
Bonds r broken and new ones r formed
Group
A column of elements
Up down
Family
A row of elements
Side to side
Period
The name of a horizontal row whose elements have the same number of electron shells
Metal
3 types of metals
A substance in its pure state
