Ch 1.5 Homeostasis Flashcards
(9 cards)
Homeostasis
The existence and maintenance of a relatively constant environment within the body
Variables
Changes in internal body conditions, their values are not constant
Feedback loops
Allows for a process to be regulated by the outcome (regulates homeostasis)
Receptor
Modernist the value of a variable by detecting stimuli
Control center
Determines the set point for the variable and receives input from the receptor about the variable
Effector
Generates the response that adjusts the value of a changed variable
Stimulus
A changed variable
Negative feedback
When any deviation from the set point is made smaller or is resisted
Positive feedback
Occurs when a response to the original stimulus results in the deviation from the set point becoming even greater
