Everything outside an organization’s boundaries
External Environment
Consist of conditions and forces within the organization
Internal Environment
Who makes up the Internal Environment
Owners, Board of Directors, Employees, Physical Environment, and Culture

Competitors, Customers, Suppliers, Strategic Partners, and Regulators

General Environment
Specific external organizations or groups that influence an organization?
Task Environment
The overall health and vitality of the economic system in which the organization operations. (Recession, high inflation, low interest rates all influence)
Economic Dimension
The methods available for converting resources into products or services. (Integrated software, privacy, and security)
Technological Dimension
Customs, mores, values, and demographic characteristics of the society in which the organization functions.
Sociocultural Dimension
Government regulations of business and the relationship between business and government.
Political-legal Dimension
The extent to which an organization is involved in or affected by business in other countries.
International Dimension
Two or more companies that work together in joint ventures or other partnerships
Strategic Partners
Set of values, beliefs, behaviors, customs, and attitudes that help the members of an organization understand what it stands for, how it does things, and what it considers important.
Organization Culture
Broad issues associated with differences in values, beliefs, behaviors, customs, and attitudes held by people in different cultures.
Multiculturalism
Exist in a community of people when its members differ from one another along one or more important dimensions.
Diversity
What are the Dimensions of Diversity?
Age distribution, Gender (Glass ceiling), Ethnicity
Extent to which the environment is relatively stable or dynamic
Rate of Change
Extent to which the environment is relatively simple or complex
Degree of Homogeneity
Driving force that influences many organizational decisions
Uncertainty
