Ch 6 (enthalpy?) Flashcards
What is solvent and what is solute?
A solute is the substance to be dissolved
The solvent is the one doing the dissolving
How do you convert celsius to kelvin?
Add 273
standard enthalpy (finding △H°F) “calculate the enthalpy changes”
(products - reactants)
1- write out eq
2- substitute the chem names for the numbers given
* make sure you separate coefficients
finding energy equation
Q = m x cp x △T q= energy (j) m= mass (g) cp= specific heat (j/g x °C) △T = change in temp
finding molar heat capacity
q = n x △T x c
n = moles
c = molar heat capacity
*you must do ( # of mol / molar mass ) to find n
△H = negative means..?
heat is being released
△H = positive means..?
heat is being absorbed
How to find how much heat is being absorbed/released
given x ( 1 mol / molar mass ) x (△H KJ / # of mol in eq) = kj
