Any hostile or destructive act -Peaks at about age 2 1/2
Agression Types Instrumental
Hostile/destructive act initiated to achieve a goal Ex. I’ll hit Tommy so I can get his toys. I’ll cut off the car so I can get ahead of him. I want my boss’s job so I’ll spread a rumor that he is having and affair.
Emotional Regulation
Managing Feelings “Ill go to school today, even though I’d rather sleep” “I’ll conquer my shyness and ask the teacher my question”
Agression Types Reactive
Hostile/destructive act carried out in response to being hurt or frustrated Ex. Jimmu took my toy, so I’m going to hit him. That guy shoved me take my place in line, so in going to punch him. He took my girlfriend, so I’m going to get a fun and shoot him.
Agression Types Relational
hostile/ destructive act to cause harm to a person’s relationship Ex. Sarah got a better grade than me, so I’m going to tell the teacher she cheated. Let’s tell everyone not to let Sarah play in the group.
Gender Segregated Play
Play in which boys and girls associated only with members of the same sex is typical of child hood -Starts in Elementary school -Gender Differences
