Moro reflex
neonate opens arms wide and tries to grab things
Palmar grasp
when object put in palm, pull out
rooting reflex
instinctively turn head when something touches cheek
sucking reflex
occurs when lips are stroked
Fontanelles
space between bones that eventually fuse to form skull
Infant immunity
can gain immunites from mother via breastfeeding
Anxious avoidant attachment
found in infants who are repeatedly rejected
cardiovascular system of toddlers (1-3) and preschooler (4-6)
not that different from adults
Preschooler vitals
pulse 80-140
Breathing rate 20-25 bpm
B/P 80-100 systoloc
School aged children
inc brain activity in both hemispheres, permanent teeth come in
Teenager
vitals level off to normal adult
psychosocial changes in teenagers
antisocial and peer pressure peaks
code of ethics develops
high risk of depression/suicide
Adult vitals
pulse; 60-100
breathing rate; 12-20
bp 90/120
Middle adults 41-60 bp
increases to 90-140 mm Hg
Older adults
life expectancy - 78
heart rate and cardiac output decrease
blood cell production and volume decreases
