Ch.2 (Air Systems) Flashcards

Air Systems

1
Q

What does the BLEED TRIP OFF (amber) light indicate?

A

The bleed trip sensors have automatically closed the Engine Bleed Air Valve due to bleed air high temp or high press. Bleed trip off light causes the AIR COND annunciator and Master Caution lights to illuminate.

Q

Condition permitting, the TRIP RESET switch reset which lights?.

A

The bleed trip off light, ZONE TEMP, and PACK lights. This will reset the trip condition as long as the exceedances no longer exist

Q

How does the ISOLATION VALVE operate with its switch in AUTO?

A

In auto, the Isolation valve is positioned by switching the Engine bleed and Pack switches. Placing any one of these switches in OFF will automatically open the isolation valve. Isolation valve will be closed when:

  • both engine bleed switches are ON and/or
  • both pack switches are in AUTO or HIGH.

Q

What precautions apply with the APU Bleed Valve when an engine bleed valve is open?

Q

When does a pack automatically switch to high air flow?

A
  • With one pack not operating, the other pack auto switches to high airflow. This is
inhibited on the ground and in the air with flaps extended to maintain adequate
engine power for single engine operation.
  • Both Engine bleed switches OFF and APU bleed switch ON regardless of air/ground
status or number of packs operating.

Q

How do the Recirculation fans operate with both RECIRC FAN switches in AUTO, and both
PACK switches in AUTO?

Q

Where do air recirculation fans draw air from?

A
  • Left: Air condition distribution compartment

- Right: Cabin air through the floor grilles on each side of the passenger cabin.

Q

What does illumination of a ZONE TEMP (amber) light indicate?

A
  • Supply duct over heat (associated Trim air modulating valve closes)
  • Failure of both primary and standby temperature controls
  • During Master Caution recall, indicates a failure of the primary or standby temp
control (Auto switch the the back up in this case)

16
Q

What happens with a failure of the primary flight deck zone temperature control?

A

The left electronic controller provides backup for the flight deck temp control

17
Q

What temperatures are commanded by positioning all zone temperature selectors to off?

A
  • Left pack: Fixed temp of 75F (24C)

- Right Pack: Fixed temp of 65F (18C)

18
Q

What provides an equipment cooling alert if an over temperature occurs on the ground?

A

Crew call horn located in the nose wheel well

19
Q

What is the purpose of the Overboard Exhaust Valve (OEV)?

A

Exhausts the hot air from equipment cooling and provides a smoke removal mode

20
Q

When is the Outflow valve position indicator operational?

A

All da time frien

21
Q

When does the OFF SCHED DESCENT (amber) illuminate?

A

If the aircraft begins to descend without having reached the preset cruise altitude. AIR COND annunciator and MASTER CAUSTION also illuminate. Controller auto programs departure field elevation.

22
Q

How is pressurization controlled with Cabin Pressurization Mode Selector in MAN?

A

With the outflow valve position switch which manually drives the outflow valve open or closed through the use of a dc motor.

23
Q

What two warnings use the same aural tone (intermittent horn) when activated?

A

The cabin altitude and takeoff configuration warnings
