Farmers now worked harder to produce more since they could make more money. Grain production increased by 150% in ten years.

China learned modern expertise and technology from the west.

The open-door policy. This allowed western corporations to enter China and do business there.
What happened to Universities?
University entrance exams were reintroduced. Private unis were allowed. Many previously persecuted ‘revisionist’ teachers were reinstated.

By 25% in 10 years.
What did Deng do to communes?
Replaced them with Xiangs. These were villages or townships.
What was the purpose of Xiangs?
They had a set quote of grain to produce, but anything excess produced was able to be sold for their own profit.
