Chap-1 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Ion bond
exchange caion with the anion within one atom
1 sugar cube
4g,1 teaspoon
Sugar alcohol
A type of sugar substitute; include sorbitol, mannitol, lactitol, erythritol,
Human body
Oxygen carbon, hydrogen nitrogen
Hydrogen bond
• A hydrogen bond is formed when a weakly positive hydrogen atom a bonded to one electronegative atom (for example, the oxygen in the molecule) is attracted to another electronegative atom from another molecule.
Exergonic
• Chemical reactions that release more energy than they absorb are characterized as exergonic.
Undergone
• Chemical reactions that absorb more energy than they release are endergonic.
Activation energy
The threshold level of energy needed to break the bonds in the reactants
Factors that influence the rate of reactions:
• Properties of reactants such as surface area and reactivity
• Temperature
• Concentration and pressure
• Enzymes and other catalysts
