internal comm
Internal communication refers to the exchange of information, ideas, and messages within an organization among its
employees, departments, and levels of hierarchy. It facilitates coordination,

external comm
External communication involves interactions
between an organization and entities outside of it, such as customers,
suppliers, investors, and the public. It serves to build relationships, convey the organization’s brand image, and fulfill stakeholder expectations.
downward comm
Downward communication involves the flow
of information from higher levels of management to lower levels within the
organizational hierarchy. It typically includes directives, instructions, goals,
policies, and performance feedback.
upward comm
Upward communication refers to the
transmission of information from lower levels of the organization to higher
levels of management. It includes feedback, suggestions, grievances, and
reports on operational matters.
horizontal comm
Horizontal communication occurs between
individuals or departments at the same hierarchical level within the
organization. It facilitates coordination, problem-solving, and information
sharing across functional areas.
diagonal comm
Diagonal communication involves
communication between individuals or departments at different levels and
across different functional areas of the organization. It bypasses the formal
chain of command and promotes cross-functional collaboration.
informal
Informal communication, also known as
grapevine communication, refers to unofficial channels of communication
that exist outside of the formal organizational structure. It includes
conversations, rumors, gossip, and social interactions among employees.
non verbal comm
Non-verbal communication involves
conveying messages without the use of words, using gestures, facial
expressions, body language, and visual cues. It complements verbal
communication and can significantly impact how messages are interpreted.
