What is the newborn predominant state?
A
Sleeping (at birth = 18h per day; waking up every 3-4 hours to feed, at 1 yo = 12h/night, naps during day)
As baby grow up, less and less time is given to sleep amd more time is given to touching, looking, hearing, and other motor functions

What is the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?
A
It is a top ranking cause of mortality of infant in the developed world (1 child in 1000). Tend to occur in the first ten months of life.

What are the possible causes of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?
A
- Can be related to the number of neurons in the brain (either too many or not enough)
- Impairment in the arcuate nucleus, which is important in breathing and wakening (crying in response to lack of oxygen)
- Stomach sleeping as it increases the risks of rebreathing the same air and asphyxiate.

How to reduce the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?
A
- Placing infant on their back when they sleep
