Q

What are the characteristics of living things?

A

Living things are made up of basic units called cells, are based on a universal genetic code, obtain and use materials and energy, grow and develop, reproduce, respond to their environment, maintain a stable internal environment, and change over time.

Q

Describe Redi’s experiment.

A

Reid challenged the theory of spontaneous generation by placing food in closed jars. If the theory of spontaneous generation were accurate, maggots would spawn from the food. This was not the case.

Q

Describe a microscope’s parts.

A

The base is on the bottom and it gives the microscope support. The stage is where you place your slides. The stage clips hold the slides in place. The lens at the top is known as the eyepiece lens. The objective lens are the lens closest to the object. The objective lens are connected to the eyepiece lens by the tube. Finally, the arm connects the tube to the base.
