What are cognates?
Words in different languages that share a common origin
An example of cognates?
English bread, Danish brod, Dutch brood and German brot.
What is Grimm’s law?
There is a consonant correlation between the classical languages and romance languages on one hand, and the germanic languages on another
Give examples of: Classical, Germanic and Romance languages.
Classical: Latin, Greek & French
Germanic: English & German
Romance: Spanish & Italian
