what is psychopathology?
study of abnormal behavior or psychological dysfunction
maladaptive
not providing appropriate adjustment to the environment or situation (biting nails, picking at skin, or coping with drinking alcohol)
psychological disorder
any pattern of behavior that causes others significant distress or harm to themselves, harms ability to function daily
biological model
psychodynamic model suggests that come from physical or biological cause
psychodynamic model
suggests disorders are a result of repressed thoughts in the unconscious mind.
behaviorist model
suggests disorders are a set of learned behaviors
cognitive psychologist have proposed what model??
cognitive model, suggest disorders come from faulty thinking patterns
biopsychosocial model
encompasses biology, psychology, and sociocultural influences on abnormal behaviors. behaviors are assessed by referring to the DSM-5!!!
what is generalized anxiety disorder?
significant and constant stress/worry about everyday events and situations, causes difficulty in daily functioning
acute stress disorder
develops within one month of traumatic event, can lead to PTSD. symptoms include intrusive memories, avoidance, and hyperarousal
anorexia nervosa
eating disorder- restriction of food intake leading to low body weight , intense fear of gaining weight, disturbed body image
bulimia nervosa
cycles of overeating followed by self induced vomiting or purging (restricting), extreme exercise and excessive concern with body weight
