Conferring

A) Occurs when counselors misrepresent to health care companies any facts regarding their services B) Most often counselors do this in hoping that their clients will receive reimbursements for services
Large bill for services that are late
A) Counselors should never threaten in anyway if payment is not made and certaintly not sue the client B) It’s better to just forget that they are never paid, so in the future, to avoid allowing more bills to pile up
Coordination
The procedures put in place to ensure all service providers are working from the same treatment plan
Consulting
Occurs when one professional solicits the opinion or advice from another
Sliding scale
A) Sets the fee for service based on the objective criteria such as amount of income and size of family B) Counselors should try to set their fee to match up with the geographical location where they are providing counseling
DSM-5 Diagnosis
A) Many v-codes don’t offer reimbursements B) Have to give a diagnosis if you’re gonna go through and get a reimbursement for the client C) Most companies will enclose limits on the diagnoses that they cover
Diagnosis for dollars
Some counselors will play the diagnoses for dollars game; they are gonna give a diagnosis that is gonna reimbursed; this is a slippery slope; we should take care to provide the proper diagnosis
Work setting supervisors and unethical relationships
A) As an employee we don’t have to submit to a direct that constitutes harm or a crime B) The code of ethics doesn’t expect counselors to fall on their swords and resign if they believe their supervisor follows a directive that involves harm or unethical C) Must work with the supervisor and organization to do better for their clients
