What is Leadership?
the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals.
What is the Trait Theories of Leadership?
theories that consider personal qualities and characteristics that differentiate leaders from non-leaders
What is the Behavioral Theories of Leadership?
theories proposing that specific behaviors differentiate leaders from non-leaders
What is Initiating Structure?
the extent to which leaders define and structure their roles and those of their subordinates in pursuit of goal attainment

the extent to which a leader has job relationships that are characterized by:
- mutual trust

a contingency theory that focuses on followers’ readiness to accomplish a specific task

A theory that says leaders should help followers reach their goals by giving support, making the path clear, and removing obstacles.

A theory that helps leaders decide how much team involvement is needed when making decisions in different situations
What is the Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) Theory?
A theory that says leaders have different relationships with each team member.
People in the “ingroup” get more trust and support, which leads to better performance, lower turnover, and more job satisfaction.
What is the Charismatic Leadership Theory?
A theory that says people see someone as a hero or special leader when they show certain inspiring behaviors.
What is Vision?
a long-term strategy for attaining a goal or goals
What is a Vision Statement?
a formal articulation of an organization’s vision or mission
What are Transactional Leaders?
Leaders who help followers reach set goals by explaining what to do and what’s expected
What are Transformational Leaders?
leaders who inspire followers to transcend their own self-interests for the good of the organization
