Q

Why are cats more susceptible to post prandial hyperglycaemia?

A

They rely on hexokinase to metabolise glucose in cells (slower than glucokinase used by dogs)

Q

Ddx hypoglycaemia

A

Increased use - sepsis, neoplasia, seizure, exercise
Decreased production - hepatic disease, hypoadrenocorticism, neonatal, glycogen storage disease, enzyme deficiencies
Increased insulin/hypoglycaemic agent - overdose, insulinoma, xylitol, sulfonylureas, neoplasia
