Q

How do you form the future tense?

A

The future is formed by inserting a σ between the future tense stem and the connecting vowel. This σ is called the “tense formative” because it helps form the future tense: λύσω. The tense formative is a morpheme, just like the personal endings.

Q

What happens if the contract vowel does not come into contact with another vowel?

A

In this case, the contract vowel lengthens before a tense formative. α and ε both lengthen to η while ο lengthens to ω. Notice that the accent is always over the lengthened contract vowel.
