What is Job Performance?
Employees behaviours that contribute, either positively or negatively to organizational goal accomplishment. Doesn’t pay attention to results(how to improve, causes people to be competitive, outside of the employees control)
What is a Task Performance?
Employee behaviours involved in converting organizational resources into goods/services. An employment ad would focus on tasks performance behaviours. A set of obligations an employee must fulfill
What is Routine Task Performance?
Well-known responses to demands that occur in a normal, routine, or otherwise predictable way.
What is Adaptive Task Performance?
Employee responses to task demands that are novel, unusual, or at the very least unpredictable.
What is Creative Task Performance?
Individuals develop ideas or physical outcomes that are both novel and useful.
What is a Job Analysis?
Process by which an organization determines requirements of specific jobs. Highly rated activities are retained and used to define task performance.
What is Citizenship Behaviour?
Voluntary employee behaviours that contribute to the organization by improving the quality of the workplace. Relevant in all jobs, meant to improve the organization
What is Interpersonal Citizenship Behaviour?
Going beyond expectations to help colleagues by helping, courtesy(sharing important info), and sportsmanship (maintaining positive attitude w/coworkers)
What is Organizational Citizenship Behaviour?
Going beyond expectations to improve the organization by voice (offering constructive suggestions for change), civic virtue(attending voluntary meetings), and boosterism(positively representing the organization in public)
What is a Counterproductive Behaviour?
Employee behaviours that intentionally hinder organization goal accomplishment
What is Property Deviance?
Behaviours that harm the organization’s assets and possession. Sabotage or Theft. Serious organizational action
What is Production Deviance?
Intentionally reducing organizational efficiency of work output. Wasting resources or substance abuse. Minor organizational action
What is Political Deviance?
Behaviours that intentionally disadvantage other individuals. Gossiping or Incivility. Minor interpersonal action.
What is Personal Aggression?
Hostile verbal and physical actions directed toward other employee. Harassment or Abuse. Serious interpersonal action.
What type of people participate in Counterproductive Behaviours?
Good performers can participate, there is a weak correlation between performance and counterproductive behaviours
What is National Occupational Classification (NOC)?
Organizes over 40,000 jobs titles into 500 occupation group descriptions. Can’t capture unique task requirements.
What is Management by Objectives (MBO)?
A management philosophy that bases employee evaluation on whether specific performance goals have been met. Best suited for managing the performance of employees who work in contexts in which objective measures of performance can be quantified. Less capable of providing specific feedback about why an objective may have been missed.
What is Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS)?
Measure performance by directly assessing job performance behaviours. Supervisors rate several performance dimension using BARS and score an employee’s overall job performance by taking the average values across all the dimensions. Feedback can help employee develop and improve over time
What is 360 degree feedback?
Collecting info from anyone who might have first-hand knowledge about the employee’s performance behaviour. Best suited for improving/developing employee talent, especially if the feed-back is accompanied by coaching in areas identified as points of concern.
What is Forced Ranking?
Forces managers to rank each employee in a category that follows a normal curve, placing employees into 1 category. Gets negative reactions.
