Hospice
Agencies provide care for people who are terminally ill with life expectancies of 6 months or less
Hospital
Major health care facilities. Vary in size and service provided.
Independent living facility
Allow individuals who can care for themselves to Rent or purchase an apartment in the facility
Industrial Health Care Centers
Found in large companies. provide health care for employees
Laboratories
Often a part of other facilities but can operate as separate health care services. Clinics, small hospitals, medical and dental offices typically use service provided by laboratories
Long term care facilities (LTCs or LTCFs)
Typically for elderly people, usually called residents. Also provide care for people with disabilities handicaps chronic or long term illnesses
Managed care
Response to rising health care costs. Principle behind managed care is that the money is spent efficiently.
Medicaid
Assists low income families or individuals by paying for hospital visits. Paid for by government and state government
Medical offices
facility space used to provide diagnosis and treatment for medical, dental, or psychiatric outpatient care.
Medicare
Health care program that provides coverage for almost all individuals over the age of 65, anyone with a disability or people who have received social securiy benefits for at least 2 years or person with end stage renal disease
Medical policy
Health insurance plan that helps pay medical expenses not covered by Medicare
Mental health facility
Treat patients who have mental disorders and diseases
National institutes of health (NIH)
Divisions of the USDHHS; involved in researching diseases and conducting scientific studies
Nonprofit agencies
Supported by donations membership fees fundraisers and federal or state grants. Provide health services at national state and local levels
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Establishes and enforced standards that protect workers from job related injuries and illnesses; issues standards on things such as limits on chemical and radiation exposure and use of personal protective equipment
