Chapter 22 Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is Newton’s Third Law?
If object A exerts a force on object B, then object B will exert a force with the same magnitude but in the opposite direction on object A.
What is normal reaction force?
The force experience when an object is in contact with a surface - perpendicular direction to the surface and away from it.
What do you do if you have two objects in contact moving with the same acceleration?
Treat them as a single particle as F = ma allows this.
When will the normal contact force equal zero?
When the object is no longer in contact with the surface.
What does inextensible imply?
.Can’t stretch.
.Particles have the same acceleration and velocity magnitude.
What does light imply?
.Negligible mass.
.Mass ignored or tension is equal throughout.
What does smooth imply?
.No friction between axis and pulley.
.Tension equal on both sides.
What is a substitute for a pulley?
A peg.
What happens when a string becomes slack?
The tension force is zero.
