20
Q

What is the nasopharynx?

A

Posterior to nasal cavity, extends to soft palate
Houses 5 openings
-contains uvula
-auditory tube connects to it

21
Q

What tonsils are located in the nasopharynx?

A

Pharyngeal/Adenoid tonsils

22
Q

Nasopharynx functions?

A

During swallowing, the uvula and soft palate elevate to block the nasal cavity to stop air from going into food

23
Q

What is the Oropharynx?

A

-Middle portion
_Opening of the oral cavity to oropharynx is called the fauces

24
Q

What tonsils are located in the oropharynx?

A

Palatine tonsil

25
Oropharynx functions?
Allows swallowed food, fluid and air through
26
What is the laryngopharynx?
Starts at hyoid bone and ends at larynx CN IX and CN X nerves
27
What tonsils are located in the Laryngopharynx?
Lingual tonsils
28
Laryngopharynx functions
-Digestive and respiratory pathways
29
What is the role of the uvula and epiglottis?
Uvula: Elevate to block nasal cavity during swallowing Epiglottis: prevent food from entering lungs
30
How many cartilages form the Larynx?
9 3 unpaired 3 paired
31
What are the 3 unpaired/single?
-Thyroid -Epiglottis -Cricoid
32
What is the single cartilages function?
protect and support larynx
33
What are the 3 paired?
-Arytenoid -Cuneiform -Corniculate
34
What are the paired cartilages function?
Sound production
35
What is the internal anatomy of the larynx?
Contains Vocal folds and vestibular folds
36
What are vocal folds?
True vocal cords -produce sounds Rima glottidis; Space between vocal folds
37
What are vestibular folds?
False vocal cords -don't produce sounds -protect vocal folds
38
How many lobes do the right and left lungs have?
Right: 3 Left: 2
39
What are the lobes in the right lung?
1. Superior 2. Middle 3. Inferior
40
What are the lobes in the left lung?
1. Superior 2.Inferior
41
Fissure both lungs have?
Oblique Fissure
42
What does the Oblique fissure separate?
Right: Superior part separates superior lobe from inferior an middle lobes Left: Separates superior and inferior lobes
43
What is the horizontal fissure?
Only in the right lung Separates superior and middle lobes
44
Lung structure?
Both have an apex base left has a cardiac notch
45
What are the types of epithelial cells in the alveoli?
1. Type I alveolar cell 2. Type II alveolar cell 3. alveolar macrophages
46
Type I alveolar cell function?
Gas exchange
47
Type II alveolar cell function?
Secrete surfactant reduce surface tension
48
Alveolar macrophages function/
Phagocytes -engulf foreign invaders
49
