Chapter 4 Flashcards
(16 cards)
Head
The top piece of a microscope with the ocular lens.
Base
The bottom part of the microscope with the substage light.
Arm
The piece that connects the base to the Head
Ocular lenses
The two lenses at the top of the head which allow you to look into the microscope
Objective lenses
Attached to the rotating nose piece, these lenses magnify what is on the slide.
Rotating nose piece
Attached to the objective lenses, this rotates between the lenses.
Stage
The stage is what a slide is placed on
Condenser
Condenser adjusts how much light is let in to the slide.
Iris diaphragm
This allows light to be focused on a certain spot of the slide
Fine adjustment knob
This allows for a finer search on the microscope, finer tuning, smaller increments of magnification.
Course adjustment knob
This is the bigger of the two knobs, it allows for immediate magnification.
Substage light
This is the light on the base of the microscope that shines through the slide.
Low power objective
The smallest of the objective lenses
Medium power objective
The second smallest magnification lens
High power objective
The strongest objective on the microscope
Total magnification
The objective lens X the ocular lens
