What was a workhouse?
A house in which poor people are lodged and then sent to work.
Who was Charles Dickens and what change his outlook on society?
An English writer in 1838. He worked in a factory while his father was in prison. Wrote Oliver Twist.
How well did the majority of people working in factories in living industrial cities benefit from the rapidly growing economy?
Didn’t benefit well, endured long, hard hours in unsafe conditions. Got very little pay.
What happened to the economy of the world, as Industrial Revolution spread to other countries?
Economy became global. Countries linked together in complex trading arrangements. Many industrialized themselves
State how the Industrial Revolution changed some of the ways in which humans interacted with nature?
Humans began to exploit earths resources.
What was commons land?
Land that could be used by anyone in the village.
