Chapter 5: AI and Robotics Flashcards
What is intelligence?
Ability to acquire, store, and apply knowledge ; having knowledge and acting on it
What is AI?
software that enables IS to mimic/stimulate human intelligence
What are intelligent agents?
machines with minds
what are the 3 main intelligence process activities and the following subactivity?
1) Acquire
2)Store
3)Apply
4)Perceive and act
What does perceiving and acting mean?
Sens environment then choose best option
What is knowledge?
Justified beliefs
What is knowledge management?
Acquire, store and apply knowledge but include creation
Why did AI advancements slowed down in 1980s ?
Bc it was not sustainable
When did AI began?
in the 1950s
When and in what was the first success of AI?
Chess 1990s
What are algorithms?
series of computer instructions
What are the 2 elements of AI algorithms?
1)Unconvential (processor uses logic/pattern)
2)Learning or improvement (over time)
What are the 2 objectives of the AI process?
1)Reasoning systems
2)Pattern matching
What is reasoning systems?
to think and act like people do ; uses probability, induction, cause and effect, planning
What are the other names of Reasoning systems?
Rules-based systems, logic systems or expert systems, or “Good old-fashioned AI”
What is pattern matching?
Think and act rationally, matches perceptions to stored data ; icludes deep-leaning, machine learning and neural networks
What are the specifics of AI software?
use logic/unconventional algorithms that learn, are goal centered and are narrow/specific
What are the 2 types of AI?
1)Narrow AI
2)Broad AI
What is narrow AI?
accomplishes specific defined task
What is the turing test?
A test to see if an AI can fool a person into thinking they are a person
What are the characteristcis of Broad AI?
Is flexible, general intelligence for a variety of contexts, counseling/planning or goal setting
What is a singularity?
A runaway cycle of self-improvement
What is superintelligence?
Endangerment of human existence
What are expert systems?
rule-based system that encode data from human knowledge in the form of If/Then rules (particular conditions exists then…)
