Chapter 6 Flashcards
(10 cards)
In glycolysis what is oxidized and what is reduced?
Glucose is oxidized and NAD+ is reduced to NADH
Oxidized molecule
Molecule looses electrons becoming positively charged
Reduced molecule
Molecule has gained electrons becoming more negatively charged
Oxidation reduction
Electrons are transferred between atoms, one molecule loosing electrons (oxidation) and one gaining electrons(reduction)
What is atp used for ?
To store and transfer energy
Where is most CO2 produced during cellular respiration?
Citric acid cycle
What is the most immediate source of energy used to create atp?
Movement of protons across membrane down their concentration gradient
What are the three stages of cellular respiration?
- Glycosides
- Citric acid cycle
- Oxidative phosphorilation
Besides glucose what creates atp?
- fatty acids
- Amino acids
- Carbohydrates
After 2 turns of the citric acid cycle what is yielded?
2 ATP, 6 NADH, 2 FADH2,
