Altruism
Providing unselfish help to others who are in need, without anticipating any reward; results of meta-analysis shows gender similarities are common
Gender comparisons
Men are more helpful on tasks that are physically dangerous or expertise in a “traditionally” masculine area/ Women care takers in Pirvate
Type of helping
Altruism, nurturance, empathy, moral judgement involving social relationships, attitudes about social justice and friendship
Types of heroism
Men help in public risky situations;
Nurturance
Kind of helping in which someone gives care to another person, usually someone who is younger or less competent

- understand someone’s emotion 2. experience same emotion. 3. concerned for the person’s well-being

Girls tend to have smaller number of friends, boys tend to have friends that belong in the same group

revealing information about yourself to another person, girls are more likely to engage in self disclosure than boys

Women are more helpful/encourage talking about problems. Men split between talking about it or pros/cons list. Both offer emotional support. men blame friend for their problem

Behavior that is directed toward another person, with the intention of doing harm

Stereotype of aggression in masculinity. Ignore common aggression in females.
Physical aggression
Intentional aggression that could physically harm another person
Relational aggression
aggression that could harm another person through intentionally manipulating relationships

typically higher in physical aggression

Interest in leadership
men are usually more interested in than women in becoming a leader
Leadership style Women
women are slightly more likely to adopt transformational leadership style and reward employees
Leadership effectiveness Women
Score higher than men on an assessment of leadership effectiveness; women who are leaders are less likely to be downgraded when they act in masculine fashion
