Why can’t non-living vaccines induce cytotoxic T cells?
Because they cannot enter MHC 1 pathway.
Which pathways can live vaccines enter and what limits their use?
MHC 1 and 2, inducing cytotoxic T cells and T helper cells. They cannot be given to pregnant women, immunocompromised patients and they require refrigeration.
Give examples on killed intact bacterial vaccines.
Pertussis, cholera, and TAB.
Give an example on live attenuated intact bacterial vaccines.
BCG against TB
What are examples on toxoid vaccines?
Tetanus and diphtheria.
What are examples on intact viral live attenuated vaccines?
MMR and Sabin OPV
When is MMR vaccine administered in children?
At 12 and 18 months.
When is DPT vaccine administered in children?
At 2,4,6 months then at 18months.
What vaccine is recommended for pregnant health care workers?
TdaP.
