Who created Classical conditioning?
Pavlov
What is classical conditioning?
A form of learning in which automatic reflex responses become associated with a specific stimulus
4 Steps in Classical Conditioning
- New unknown stimulus
- Pair it with a known one
- Repetition
- Observe
3 Phases of Classical Conditioning
- Acquisition
- Extinction
- Spontaneous Recovery
What is Acquisition?
The learning phase in which an unconditioned response is established
What is Extinction?
The gradual reduction and termination of the conditioned response after its repeated without the conditioned response
What is Spontaneous Recovery
Sudden re-emergence of an old conditioned response after an Extinction
What is the Renewal Effect
The appearance of a previously extinguished behaviour when the subject is tested in a different context than before
What is Stimulus Generalization
Process in which conditioned behaviours that are similar but not identical to the original behaviour elicit a conditioned response
What is Stimulus Discrimination
The ability to distinguish between different stimuli and respond differently to each
What is higher-order conditioning
Developing a response to a stimuli because of its association with another stimulus
