Chapter 7 Flashcards
(51 cards)
How is differentiation important in business math?
It helps analyze certain changes in a function
What is the purpose of integration or integral calculus? 4
-Opposite of differentiation
-Used when only rate of change is known.
-Helps reconstruct OG function
-Calculates total amount of costs or total revenue from marginal values
What is the formula to find OG function?
f’(x)= ax^n+ b
f(x)= a/n+1 x^n+1 + bx + C0
Don’t forget to always add C0
What are the two main tasks of integral calculus?
- Find the OG function (integration)
- Calculate area under a curve:
If f(x) is continuous on [a,b] , integration helps find the area between f(x) and the axis from a to b
What is C0?
The integration constant (fixed cost)
-real number
What do you call the number on the top of ∫
Upper interval limit b
What do you call the number on the bottom of the ∫?
Lower interval limit a
How do you calculate the anti derivative with integrals?
F(b)-F(a)
What is the purpose of linear algebra in business math?
To optimize complex trader relationships.
Deals with description, analysis and optimization of linear systems
(In optimization problems, the function has to be linear and the constraints are formed in linear equations and linear inequalities )
What are the 3 basic elements of linear algebra?
Matrices, vectors, systems of linear equations
What is a matrix and what does it consist of
Rectangular number scheme
m rows and n columns
Also called m x n matrix
What is a vector and what can it be?
A row vector or a column vector
Row vector: 1 x n matrix
Column vector: 1 x m matrix
(Kabaliktaran of matrix)
What are the numbers in front of the variables x1, x2 called in linear algebra?
Coefficients
How can you solve a system of linear equations using linear algebra?
using the Gaussian algorithm
Which 3 disciplines is linear systems used in business?
interdependencies
internal performance accounting
input-output analysis
Where is linear optimization mainly applied in business?
In business research (operations research) for solving planning and decision problems.
What is f(x) in integration?
integrand
What is dx in integration?
shows the variable to be integrated
What is ∫?
integration sign
What is the function F in integration?
the anti derivative of function f
What does F(b) represent in integration?
the antiderivative at point x = b
What does F(a) represent in integration?
the antiderivative at point x = a.
What is the the antiderivative of
∫ 1/x dx?
ln(x)+c
What is the the antiderivative of
∫ 1/x +3 dx?
ln (x+3) + c
