What are joints (articulation)?
Fancy word for where bines connect.
Three structual classification of joints?
- Fibrous- fibers.
- Cartilaginous- cartilage.
- Synovial- synovial membrane.
Three functional classification of joints?
- Synarthrotic- immorable- skull.
- Amphiarthrotic- slightly morable.
- Diarthrotic- freely morable.
Three fibrous joints?
- Synovial joint
- Gomphosis
- syndesmosis
What is a syndesmosis? Example?
An immovable joint in which bones are joined by connective tissue. For example between the fibula and tibia at the ankle.
What is a suture? Example?
An immovable junction between two bones, such as those in the skull.
What us a gomphosis? Example?
Is a fibrous mobile peg and socket joint. The roots of the teeth fit into their sockets in the mandible and maxilla and are the only examples of this type of this type of joint.
Two types of cartilaginous joints?
Synchondrosis and symphisis.
What is a synchrondosis? Examples?
An immovable joint between bones bound by a layer of cartilage.
What is a symphasis joint? Example?
Is a secondary Cartilaginous joint.
