Chapter 8 Questions Flashcards
(9 cards)
What was the transforming principle?
It discovered that since DNase destroyed the transforming substance, the transforming substance was DNA.
Who demonstrated that DNA carried genetic information?
Hershey and Chase.
How is the nitrogenous base linked to the 1’ carbon atom of the sugar?
Through a covalent bond.
How are polynucleotide strands connected?
Covalent, phosphodiester bonds.
What is on the outside and inside of the double helix?
The sugar phosphate linkages are on the outside and the bases are stacked in the interior.
How many H bonds does C and G have?
3
How does Z DNA differ from B DNA?
Z DNA forms a left handed helix.
What is the nucleosome made up of?
Two copies of each H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 histone proteins.
What are the characteristics of DNA sequences on telomeres?
One strand consists of G, A and T nucleotides, they consist of repeated sequences and one strand protrudes beyond the other, creating single stranded DNA at the end.
