When people are loyal to their state, and the state encourages the nation

U.S., a Politically organized area, has to be recongnized
Nation
French, a people who share the same culture/hertiage, and have the same political agenda, think “imagenary community” as well.
Stateless nation
Kurds, a people without a land of their own
Nation-state
Japan, a state that is almost completlely homogenous
Compact state
Hungary, a state with its capital in roughly in the middle of the state. Usually easier to govern.
Prorupted state
Thailand- a state that is mistly compact, but has on long protution to reach a natural resourse. Usually harder to govern because communication and transportation are harder
Elongated state
Chile- A long, semi-rectangular state. Usually harder to govern, because transportation/communication are harder
Perforated
Lestho- a state that is completely surronded by another. Trade is completely determined by relationship with neighbor.
Fragmented state
Indonisia- a state that is in pieces. Hard to govern.
Buffer state
Acts as a buffer zone between two powerful states
Wallerstein
World systems theory- core, semi-perifery, perifery, captislist world economy.
Mackinder
Heartland theory- those who control the mainland of eurasia will control the world. Land based power. English/american school of thought.
Ratzel
German school of thought. State is like a biological organism, needs new territiory constantly to survive.
Supernationalism
3 or more states make an organisim, usually for trade or peace
Enclave
An enclosed territory that is distinct from the surrronding territory.
Landlock
Landlocks states have two or more states between them and an ocean. They have to play nice with theri nieghbors to survive.
Balkanization
States breaking into other states from one large state. Took place in the former yugoslavia.
Shatter belts
An area of instability between two countries with opposing political/cultural views
Physical boundaries
A feature of the physical environment separating two states (i.e. a river, a mountain)
Geometric boundary
Straight, have a reson behind why theyre there.
