Chapter 9 Flashcards
(5 cards)
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid is a molecule that carries most of the genetic instructions used in the development, functioning and reproduction of all known living organisms and many viruses
Nucleotide
are organic molecules that serve as the monomers, or subunits, of nucleic acids like DNA and RNA
RNA
Ribonucleic acid, or RNA is one of the three major biological macromolecules that are essential for all known forms of life
Ribosome
The ribosome is a complex of over 50 proteins plus its own complement of RNA, often denoted rRNA. There are free ribosomes that are suspended in the cytoplasm of the cell, but many of them are attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum associated with the nuclear envelope of the cell.
Mutation
a change in the nucleotide-base sequence of a gene or DNA molecule
