Q

bony parts of hip joint

A
  • head of femur is two thirds of a ball and fits into acetabulum securely
  • acetabulum is augmented in two ways
  • inferior deficiency, the acetabular notch: is filled by a ligament (transverse acetabular ligament)
  • lip of fibrocartilage around the socket: the acetabular labrum

Q

synovial and fibrous capsule of the hip joint

A
  • synovial capsule runs from the edge of the acetabulum to the base of the femoral neck
  • fibrous capsule is thickened into three ligaments

Q

iliofemoral ligament

A
  • most important
  • has an inverted V shape running rom the AIIS to the intertrochanteric line
  • prevents hyperexternsion

Q

blood and nerve supply of the hip bone

A
  • major anastomosis around the hip joint, receiving branches from the obturator artery, the superior and inferior gluteal arteries and the medial and lateral femoral circumflex arteries (branches of the femoral artery)
  • small artery that runs from the deepest part of the acetabulum to the head of the femur, running into the depression in the head the fovea capitis
  • innervation of the joint is from all the nerves that cross the joint
