1892- In Germany Schlieffen devises a plan for fighting a two-front war, swiftly knock-out France whilst maintaining a defensive posture against Russia
What occurred when Armenian dissidents revolted against Turkish taxes in the 1890’s?
Armenians are christens who live in Türkiye Armenia was more in common with Russia than Türkiye. Turkish troops killed thousands of them and burned their villages
What was the Dreyfus affair?
Dreyfus was a captain in the French army accused of selling military secrets to the Germans (He was framed) his officer Esterhazy was the one guilty and Dreyfus gets put in prison even though the evidence showed Esterhazy was guilty. The reason he was convicted is because he was Jewish

Due to scientific advancements and industrialized people believe they can master the world and this is reflected in a new form of stories called science fiction

Teddy Roosevelt used a accident that resulted in the destruction of the navy warship “The Maine” to stop was on Spain they win and take over what remains of the Spanish empire. They gain influence over Cuba and directly take over the Philippines and Puerto Rico

China was forced by Britain to rent out Hong Kong for Britain to rule over 99 years
What was the Fashoda Incident?
In 1898 the Anglo-French rivalry in Africa culminated in the standoff between French and British forces at Fashoda on the Nile in the southern Sudan and almost brought the 2 powers to war
Who were the Boers?
They were Dunch settlers in South Africa (Afrikeners) and were there well before the British and as such believe have the right to the land. The British wanted South Africa for the trade route
What was the Great Trek?
The Boers give in and allow Britain to have the southern tip of South Africa, the British agree to let the Boers to move to the interior of South Africa and set up a independent country it was called “the orange free state”. The Great Trek was the trek to move to their new country
What was the Boer war?
Gold and diamonds are found in this newly formed Boer country. Britain now wants those countries, the Boers weren’t prepared to move again so they fight to keep their land
What was Canada’s contribution to the Boer war?
This was the first war that Canada as a official country fought in. By the completion of the war 7368 fought in South Africa 89 were killed and 130 died of sickness
What was the 3 phases of the Boer war?
Phase 1- The Boers knew the land and were very goof with guns as such they were beating the British
Phase 2- The British bring troops from all over the empire until they outnumber the Boers
Phase 3- The Boers are overwhelmed and many of their women and kids are put in camps where over 20000 die

What is the difference between “first past the post” and “proportional representation systems?
The was of deciding the winner of a election in which the winner gets all the power. The winner gets more power than they deserve and the loser gets less power than they deserve. The other way to so it is the candidates share power
What was the Boxer Rebellion?
The people of China were tired of being ruled over by the Europeans and Americans and revolted. The Europeans and Americans sent they armies to put down the rebellion and killed tens of thousands of Chinese people
What was the Australian Immigration Restriction Act of 1901?
To restrict certain cultures to coming to Australia. They have to take a test in a certain language rather than naming groups they didn’t want they would have to take a test in a language you didn’t know
Why was Booker T. Washington’s visit to the White House controversial?
He was the first black man to actually sit down and have a meal in the White House
Who was Cecil Rhodes?
He was a very rich banker and empire builder from Britain in South Africa and he really believed in the White Man’s burden

It killed 30000 people from a volcano
