Chem H Flashcards
(11 cards)
collision theory
chemical reactions can occur if particles that collide with each other create enough energy to reach activation energy
increase in concentration
increases pressure and surface area of reacting gas and increases frequency of particle collisions
increase in temperature
increases frequency of collisions and makes collisions more energetic increasing rate of reaction
catalysts
increase rate of chemical reaction but are not used up by providing an alternate pathway lowering activation energy
what is equilibrium position
when rate of forward and reverse reaction are the same. The concentration of reactants and products become constant
closed system
when nothing can enter or exit the reaction
Le chateliers principle
if you change something in a reaction the system will always try to counteract the change
Increasing concentration
more products will form until equilibrium is reached again
yield
the amount of product produced in a reaction
increasing and decreasing temp
increasing temp will cause the system to shift in the direction of endothermic direction and vice versa
increasing pressure and decreasing pressure
increasing pressure favors side with more moles and vice versa
