Chemical Cordination Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Hormones
A
- Hormones are chemical messengers released by glands in to the blood to co ordinate a change in the body
2
Q
how quick?how long they last for?type of signal?
Hormones v nerves
A
- Hormones are slower than electrical impulses
- Hormones act for a longer time than nerves.
- Hormones are a chemical signal whereas nerves send out electrical impulses
3
Q
what does it do?where is it made?
Adrenaline Hormone
A
- Increased Heart Rate and Breathing rate
- secreted from adrenal glands
- Glucose released from liver
4
Q
Knock on effects of the Adrenaline effects (5 marks)
A
-> Increased Heart rate: Increased volume of Oxygenated blood delivered to muscle cells therefore more muscle cell aerobic respiration
-> Prepares body for muscle contractions - Flight response
-> Glucose from liver - more glucose for more aerobic respiration and to break down oxygen debt from anaerobic respiration
-> More aerobic respiration = more energy released therefore preparing body for more muscle contractions
