Chemical Equations Flashcards
(6 cards)
What is a chemical equation
This tells us the reactants(left) and products(right)
What does an equation tell us
This tells us the ratio in which the reactants and the ratio of products formed
In what conditions are state symbols very important, in a ionic equation
When a precipitate or gas is formed
What is an ionic equation
This is when the equation only consists of the reacting ions( all other species know as spectator ions)
How do you work out ionic equations
This can be done by cancelling out the ions that are common to both sides of the equation, however a precipitate, liquid or gas can not be cancelled
Turn the following into a ionic equation
MgCl2(aq)+2AgNO3(aq) –> 2AgCl(s) + Mg (NO3)2(aq)
2Cl(aq)+2Ag(aq)–>2AgCl(s)
