Chemical Kinetics Flashcards
(14 cards)
Define half life of a reaction
Total no of half time required to complete the initial reaction during any chemical change.
State Rate law
States that rate of reaction is determined by the help of product of concentration of reactants and their power as well as rate constant ie
R= K[A]^x [B]^y
Define energy of activation
Intermediate state that occurs during the conversion of reactants into product.
Define rate of reaction
determines the rate by the help of concentration of reactants.
Define order of reaction.
Sum of power of concentration of reacting substance that appears in the rate law.It is determined experimentally.
Define rate constant.
denoted by K.Helps to determine the rate of reaction.
Define first order reaction.
Type of reaction whose rate of reaction depends on the concentration of only one reactant.
Define zero order reaction.
Type of reaction whose rate of reaction doesn’t depend on concentration of any reactant.
Define molecularity of a reaction.
Total no of atoms or molecules that take part in chemical reaction.It is determined theoritically.
Define Instantaneous rate.
Rate of reaction that occurs in any instant of time during any chemical change.
Define pseudo 1st order reaction.
It is basically a high order reaction that acts as a 1st order reaction.
Define effective collision
Collision between two reacting molecule that results in forming a product.
Define position collision.
Reacting molecule have any geometric shape that later on results in effective collision.
Formula related to half time.
K=rate/[A]
t1/2=0.693/k
K=2.303/t log a-x/a
