Thermodynamics Flashcards
(9 cards)
Hess’s law and its application.
The amount of heat absorbed or evolved in the process is same wether the process is carried out in 1 step or several step. Its application is it can determine the heat of transition and determine the heat of a reactions
1st law of thermodynamics and its limitation
1st law of thermodynamics states that heat energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. Its limitation is it cannot describe the evolution and absorption of heat.
Intensive and Extensive properties.
Intensive properties depends upon the pressure and amount whereas extensive properties depend only upon amount
Bond enthalpy.
Total energy required to break the bond of the stated..
Exothermic and Endothermic reaction.
Exothermic reaction liberate hear whereas endothermic reaction absorb heat.
Enthalpy of formation/ reaction
Enthalpy of combustion.
Gibs free energy
