What is the biggest threat to a vintage in Casablanca Valley?

A

Frost

Since the area is coastal it is very humid and cool.

The cool temperatures and breezes brought through the entrance of the Coastal Range mountains –where Casablanca is located– forms nightly fog, especially in the crucial month of November.

Wind machines and frost prevention are used quite a bit here.

What geographical features make Casablanca Valley good for cool climate grapes?

A

It is at a break in the Coastal Ranges mountains so it is the beneficiary of cool winds that are a result of the Humboldt Current.

Kind of like how the Van Duzer Corridor* affects *McMinnvile in Willamette, OR.

Casablanca also gets nightly fog.
