them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit” - Bible (The Great Commission)

“You are all one in Christ Jesus” - Bible
The importance of Holy Communion/Eucharist
“This is my body, which is for you; do this in
remembrance of me” - Bible
This shows that Christians give respect to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for all sins, and thank God for giving humans a chance of redemption and going to heaven
“Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” - Bible
They remember Jesus’ death on the cross, which they believe paid the price for humanity’s sins
They are publicly declaring their faith in Jesus’ death and its significance
“until he comes” points to the Christian belief in the Second Coming of Christ - sign of faith and hope in his promised return
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks this blood has eternal life” - Bible
Helps Christians achieve salvation and go to heaven
Unity - Sharing of the bread unites Christians
Christians remembering the significance of the resurrection during Easter
“Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life” - Traditional hymn sung by Orthodox Christians at the Easter Divine Liturgy
“risen” shows Jesus overcomes death, showing he is Divine as he has overcome humanity’s greatest weakness
“trampling” also shows this idea
“bestowing life” shows Jesus gives eternal life to us by allowing humans to go to heaven, showing his omnipotence and benevolence
The role of the Church is to provide for those in need
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink” - Bible
The primary mission of the worldwide Church is to teach that Jesus came to reconcile humanity and God
“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation” - Bible
“Leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be
reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your
gift” - Bible
“Forgive them for they know not what they do” - Bible (Jesus on the cross)
The Church will campaign on behalf of the persecuted and will support them against injustice
“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.” - Bible
If one part of the Christian community is affected, then the whole of it is
Quote that urges Christians to prevent world poverty through supporting the actions of charities or helping alleviate poverty through their own actions
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or
sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of
God be in that person?” - Bible

Where the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette and she was cured of a terminal disease by a spring of water
There are 70 reports of miracles occuring at Lourdes (e.g. Marie Bailly being cured of apparently incurable terminal tubercular peritonitis in 1902, however this could have been a faulty diagnosis)
