What is a citation?
Citations are mentions of your businesses NAP info on other websites. Third party backups of your business info that help prove to Google’s algorithm that you’re a local business at your location.
What are 2 kinds of citations?
Directory listings - Nap info listed in a structured format
Unstructured citations - Nap info listed in long form content like press releases or blog content.
How important is it to have citations?
Not very. Citations just allow you a spot as a competitor but it doesn’t have any weight on your performance on the web.
It’s like buying in on a hand of poker. It’s just meant to allow you to play and show up. nothing more.
Why are citations important?
They’re more important for showing up in the Map pack. If you don’t have your citations set up correctly then it becomes difficult to show up in map pack results.

How can you check which citations matter?
Do a quick Google search and look at the listings that come up. Make sure that any site listing your NAP info is displaying the correct information.
