Leaders can be present among sighting and agitated crowds and can encourage and ensure they become a mob
Leaders can be identified by
- behaviors
- location
- movement within a crowd
- may be surrounded by a smaller group acting as his security.
- may be in the front of the crowd

behavior of “someone going about their own business”
- no common agenda or boundaries
- hands by their sides
- heads forward, keeping personal space
transition into sighting
in response to an event or distraction, the casual crowd will start to show behaviors indicative of a sighting crowd. such as pointing and gesturing, less personal space, increased volume and noise.
sighting crowd
an event or distraction that recieves attention from those present. pointing, gesturing to the source of attraction, purposeful communication, crown members closer together the more dense the crowd is the more likely it is to escalate.
transition to agitated crowd
shouting or chanting in unison, offensive language, noise with rhythmic tempo, raised objects or arms signify the crowd is becoming an agitated crowd

Adding emotion is what separates this crowd from a sighting crowd
-unified shouting and chanting

-more defined boundaries exist
-louder deeper voiced with rhythmic tones

crowds wont always turn into mobs, they can be stopped and police in control during this stage
transition into mob
broken boundaries, pockets of violence, destruction, random screaming that replaces unified chanting, sporadic space between crowds

different because of the physical violence that is usually associated with a mob.
violence against people and property, destruction, boundaries break down, throwing objects and crown members rapidly advancing
keep in mind not all crowd members are violent during a mob.
non violent behavior
most gatherings and small groups are not violent.
-a public disorder or disturbance usually involves harmless name calling, demonstrations to express views, corporate yelling or chanting, singing and dancing, minor property damage.

distance is one arm, one baton, plus 6 inches
advance
a rapid advance is at a light jog/run, a slow advance is a a walking pace, this not stomp and drag but a regular pace.
cordon
this is more of a command to close the open order and places the fire teams back on line down range this create a shield line again to hold the ground. the benefit of this is efficiency and speech
