Class vs age

A

-up until1970s= class, with each party representing diff classes
E.g.—
For some it remains important-2019 GE cities strong W/C identity - Man/Liv
2024- C2DE. Reform as Constoo elite

Class not important -
Class de alignment from1970s due to change economy (reduction blue collar industry) 2) parties change appeal
Labour 2019-
DE= 34%c.f. 64% in 1964

Age = “new dividing line” (2017 YouGov)
Old- con, younger-left wing
2024= 18-24
Greens = 18%
Labour = 42%
8% cons,9% reform

2024-60+
Green s= under 3 %
Labour - 24%
Reform = 16%
Cons = 40%!!!!!!!- problem of ageing pop of voters

A

Education as dividing lin-
Cons= fewer qualifications
- lower levels education more likely to have authoritarian values
Higher level education- libertarian values hence LD/L

Class still important-
Education new class divide?- lower levels education = earn less
2024- Reform more vote share those W/C and lower education attainment
-educational divide short term? Based around brexit

- decline importance from1997= Blair M/C seats from SE and EM, 2010 SNP shattered lab dominance of Scot, 2019 Tories broke red wall
BUT 2024= landslide Return dominance in scotland and north

- regional division reflective of class divideascitis = increased conc of younger, more education = labour
