Murray says the welfare state are involved in crime such as drugs,robbery and shoplifting.
The media creates stereotypes about the underclass such as being dirty.

jordan disagrees with Murray as he believes the underclass have the same values and attitudes as everyone else in society and most of them would love to work if they were given the opportunity. He also states most of them feel a sense of shame as they cannot provide for their families.
